Side, 3. Inner Corner, 4. Start, 5. In this example, I've selected patterns for Side , Start and End. If you'll need to change the color of the stroke after the pattern brush has been applied to a path, go to the Colorization Method menu and choose Tints. Here the pattern brush has been applied to paths, each with a different color stroke. Raster images can also be used to create pattern brushes. The images must be embedded.
Click the Links Panel menu and choose Embed. In this example, I'm using a grayscale bicycle in. Select Pattern Brush in the dialog box and click OK. If you want space between the repeats in the pattern, set the percentage in the Spacing field.
Select OK. Along with the Dialogue box, the Pattern Options window will also appear. In that window, you can give a name to your Pattern Swatch and make necessary alterations as required, and then click on Done.
Now I will create one more shape which is required for my pattern brush and will add it as a Pattern Swatch in the same way as I have saved the above shape. Now we will create a Pattern Brush with the help of these two Pattern Swatches.
Click on Window in the Menu Bar and select Brushes. In the Brushes Panel, click on the New Brush icon. The New Brush Options box will appear with different types of brush options.
From those options select Pattern Brush and click OK. I will fill these tiles with the Pattern Swatches which we have created above. From these tiles options, you can select which position you want to place your Pattern Swatch. You can make changes in the settings as per your requirement but prefer to select Tints for Colorization Method.
Using the Rectangle Tool M , create a 24 by 16px shape. Enter an 8px radius and click OK. Enter "34" in the Horizontal box and click the Copy button. Select the top copy and hit the up arrow once to move it 1px up. Enter a Simply enter " Enter a 2px radius and click OK. Move to the Layers panel, double click on the resulting shape and name it "chainLink". Select the top copy and move it 1px up.
Reselect both copies and click on the Minus Front button from the Pathfinder panel. Select "chainLink", focus on the Appearance panel and add a second fill using the Add New Fill button pointed by the little, blue arrow in the following image.
Enter the properties shown in the following image and click OK. Enter a 1px Offset and click OK. Select the resulting shape and focus on the Appearance panel. Select both shapes made in this step and click on the Intersect button from the Pathfinder panel. Enter a 2px Offset and click OK.
