I truly regret doing the upgrade, and am considering reverting back to Windows 7.
Spending the money and time required to set up the new system was a total waste of time and effort. The upgrade was performed for my wife's desktop. In my case, I switched to Mac about 18 months ago. A much better system that has never slowed down due to persistent registry errors that is inherent in Windows. And Apple listens to their customers.
Ad Hoc connections are available on Mac, which is an indication that Apple truly cares about their customers. I am very sure that they would never consider degrading their system so that a key component such as Ad Hoc networks are no longer available. Now it is time to connect other computers to this network. On the client computer, click the network icon from the notification area and you will see the list of available networks. Select the ad hoc network which you just created and click on Connect. You will be asked to type the password. When done, click on OK.
When done, the window shown above will be gone and you can now start using the network. After setting up an ad hoc computer-to-computer network and connecting all client computers, one would assume that features such as file sharing, networking discovery, etc.
Unfortunately this is not the case. After a client is connected, it will spend a few seconds identifying the network. When this happens, the Network and Sharing Center will look similar to the screenshot below. After the network is identified, Windows 7 will assign to it the public network profile. This means that you cannot share anything.
Another problem is the fact that you cannot change the assigned network profile from public to work or home. Your Ad Hoc network has been established and you are capable of transferring and sharing files. Your job is done. Now you can share documents and the Internet connection between machines and devices.
